Jeff,
I was cruising the Internet looking for non-pornographic real life information on school paddlings and found your website. I’ve been interested in this subject since I was six years old. I saw my first grade teacher spank a girl on her bare butt. Forty one years later, I’m still excited about it.

I realize that real life beatings are being inflicted on innocent kids so I hope that I’ve never actually caused a kid to suffer. That would be terrible. So what I think is that the fantasy is good and the reality is bad.

My own girlfriend suffered at a private Catholic school. It was terrible, but today we can talk about it and I know she even gets turned on by some of our role-playing. It may have harmed her, but it is also a part of our sex lives.

“Don” October, 2002
From 1969-1974, on what was then one of the only three networks available, a television show ran called “The Brady Bunch.” There are fans today of all ages who watch re-runs commonly shown on cable and satellite TV. I was aged 13 when it was out -- and of course Marcia Brady, played by the child-actress Maureen McCormick, was my fantasy girlfriend. I say, “of course,” because it turns out that for anyone my age, or anyone near my age, she was the “fantasy girlfriend.” She was, in anyone’s book, hot.
Of course “Marcia Brady” was a TV character—we all knew that—but there were also the real flesh and blood “Marcia Bradys” in our schools that we had crushes on too. They were the cool, but still kind of vulnerable, girls at school who looked or acted much like Marcia’s archetype. I was a bit shy in those early years so the “real Marcias” in school seemed almost as far away as the TV Marcia, but nonetheless all of them served to rouse the youthful hormones.
What would have been the effect on myself and other teen viewers of both genders, let alone child and middle aged adult viewers, if Mr. Brady had lifted Marcia’s skirt, pulled her panties down, and spanked her bare buttocks right there on TV? Would there have been any sexual elements? Not fair you say? Ok, let’s remove the “bare butt” and hand-butt contact aspects. What if he instead allowed her to keep her panties on, and lifted her skirt and spanked her panty-covered buttocks with his belt, as is commonly done in some Southern “Christian” schools? Still too sexual or not fair? What if she had been allowed to keep her skirt on, but had been paddled by her principal at school, right on TV? The sexual elements would have been overwhelming, and impossible to show on family TV, even though this is exactly what kids and adult staff are exposed to every day in US paddling schools.
The sexual elements would be equally, and perhaps even more, overwhelming if any of the “Marcias” at my school were spanked or paddled, especially by men. They would be “real” and “close.” I would see them every day. None of them ever were paddled to my knowledge, although the school didn’t specifically prohibit it. In Southern States today, especially, where men now routinely paddle young women, overwhelming sex abuse visualization is exactly what is happening, on a daily basis, to every student in the school. For these reasons and many others I often tell parents who have children in paddling schools that they should get them out of there no matter what ‘safeties” the school seems to have in place. Their children are very certainly being harmed for life in hidden ways by paddling, even if it never happens to them directly.
The following quotes, from the recently paddled young women we interviewed, deal with the effects on witnesses to their paddlings. Some paddling practices seemed to deliberately "show off" their paddlings to witnesses outside, such as forcing the victim to “shout the count” with each swat, while students and staff were in the office and halls. There are many lifelong victims of paddling—and like the man whose letter opened this section, they’re not always the paddled students themselves. Child, adolescent, as well as adult witnesses of paddling, are often psychologically and sexually harmed for life.
Knowing all I know now, I would never allow my child to attend any paddling school, ever, even if the school had “parental choice,” and even if the alternate punishments were not so artificially severe as to cause my child to want to “choose paddling.” Even when parental vetoes of paddling are actually honored, and few are, it does not protect your child from being traumatized by paddling, on some level, for life. Just being around the “Marcia Bradys” of the school being paddled is demeaning, humiliating, arousing, and confusing at the same time. Just standing in the office while a principal repeatedly tells a boy to put his hands back on the desk for another swat, as one teen girl who was waiting in the office related, can be traumatizing. Witnessing a paddling directly, or the effects of a paddling, are tremendously harmful, even to the adult witnesses, let alone to psychologically and sexually maturing children and teens.
