No ifs, and or butts—the female posterior is not merely an object of
male obsession. Women are all as concerned with their rear ends as men are…. “We use our bottoms to seduce,” says Catherine Tingherian, author of “Pour Avoir Une Jolie Fesse” (How to Have a nice backside). “When we pass a man in the street, he looks around and surveys our back and bottom.”
--“Most are Bummed Pit by Their Bottom Line” Detroit News,
January 7, 1993, p. 6D. | | That the human buttocks, especially but not exclusively of young females, is a sex area of the body seems so obvious that I wonder whether it even need be mentioned. Suffice it to say that when no less a "right wing icon" than Rush Limbaugh quips that he “loves the women’s movement—especially when viewed from behind,” that most of us don’t have to ask what he meant by the remark. When his “from the left,” and perhaps a bit bolder, radio counterpart Howard Stern actually spanks pretty young women on their “bare butts” on his popular show he is, as he says in his book, “bringing vicarious sex to his radio show.” Even hearing a spanking of an attractive young woman on radio is “vicarious sex” that is enjoyed by a wide audience of “ordinary men” from any political or religious affiliation. Paddling can likewise be “rape/fornication,” i.e. “coerced porno violence,” when it is “administered” to adolescents in paddling schools. Political views are irrelevant to, and religious beliefs don’t change, our deep, animal, biological sex drives. The fact that an adolescent girl’s buttocks is almost universally a sexual area to men, and that spanking can be a means of sexual domination and arousal, is beyond question. These issues are generally well understood in our society, in fact, even though we pretend they get magically "turned off" somehow when we hire men to spank teen women in our schools. | | This recognition of the sexual aspects of an adolescent girl’s buttocks, and the sexual aspects of spanking, are certainly not the isolated rantings of some “guy from the North” that Southern folks don’t understand, or from someone who has “perverted spanking thoughts” that Southerners are immune to. Every woman that we interviewed for this book, as well as their boyfriends, were aware of the sexual issues involved to some level, and they all lived in Southern, high paddling locales. No less a “Southern Icon” than the Grand Old Oprey can host jokes about the spanking/sexual connection, and the largely Southern audience laughs and does not have to ask what was meant. For example the Fall, 1993, issue of “The Last Resort” carried a letter from a reader: | "The Grand Old Oprey had a team (Oswald and Charlie) that on
August 7, 1993 told a spanking joke. He said he got so mad at
his wife that he turned her over his knee and lifted up her skirt
to spank her. Then he forgot what he was mad about.” | | What if “Oswald and Charlie” had substituted “daughter,” or “step-daughter,” in place of “wife” for that joke? Would it still have been funny? The point is that this audience, listening in a high paddling state, "understood" the joke perfectly and laughed. In the joke the woman to be spanked was a wife, so the sexual violation was "ok," and no actual hitting took place, so the joke was funny. In the real world, however, many men sexually enjoy spanking helpless adolescents and children. In a sinister twist on Oswald and Charlie's good humor, they often like to joke about their sadistic and perverse abuse afterwards as well—only instead of harmless laughs their jokes serve to trivialize the assault and to further humiliate the victim into silence. |
